Pakistan Signals Possible Action Against TTP Terrorists Inside Afghanistan

NEW YORK  — Pakistan has warned that it may take action against Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants operating from inside Afghanistan if the Taliban government fails to act.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, said on Wednesday that intelligence reports confirm the presence of around 6,000 TTP fighters on Afghan soil. He warned that if the Afghan Taliban do not take steps against these militants, Pakistan “will take measures for its own security.”

‘Afghanistan Has Become a Sanctuary Again’

Asim Iftikhar said that Afghanistan has once again turned into a safe haven for terrorist groups and their proxies, creating a serious regional threat. He added that multiple terrorist outfits in Afghanistan are now cooperating with each other, increasing the danger for Pakistan and neighboring countries.

He noted that Pakistan has concrete evidence of these networks, and a recent UN report also confirmed the presence and activities of TTP militants inside Afghanistan.

Pakistan Foiling Infiltration Attempts

The Pakistani envoy said that the country’s security forces have successfully stopped several infiltration attempts by TTP militants trying to cross into Pakistan. He praised the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces and civilians who have fought terrorism for decades.

“As a frontline state, Pakistan has paid a heavy price,” he said. “Our brave soldiers and civilians continue to defend the nation with courage.”

Afghan Crisis Affecting the Entire Region

Asim Iftikhar added that the humanitarian and security crisis in Afghanistan has begun to impact the entire region. He said the war has ended, and therefore Afghan refugees should return to their homeland.

He emphasized the need for the international community to support peace, stability, and counter-terrorism efforts inside Afghanistan to prevent further escalation of threats.
