Rajab expected to start on December 22

12 December, 2025 15:11

The Meteorological Department has announced that the moon of Rajab is expected to be sighted on the evening of December 21. If the moon is seen that day, Monday, December 22, will be the first day of the holy Islamic month.

According to officials, the Rajab moon should be visible after sunset on December 21. They said the weather and astronomical conditions that evening are favourable for moon sighting across the country.

Sunset and Moon Visibility

The Met Office shared that sunset in Karachi on December 21 will be at 5:48pm. The moon is expected to become visible at around 6:51pm, giving people a good chance to spot it. Moonlight is likely to remain for about 63 minutes after sunset.

Moon Age Meets Requirements

Experts also explained that the age of the Rajab moon in Karachi will be about 35 minutes at the time of sighting. Usually, a moon needs to be at least 30 minutes old to be visible. Since it is older than the required age, the chances of sighting are strong.

Based on these conditions, the first day of Rajab is likely to fall on Monday, December 22. The final decision will be announced after the official moon sighting committee confirms it.

Rajab is one of the four sacred months in the Islamic calendar and holds special religious importance for Muslims around the world.
