An investigation into the unrest that occurred during Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s visit to the Punjab Assembly has revealed that unrelated and convicted individuals gained access to the premises alongside him, sources confirmed on Sunday.
The inquiry, conducted by a special investigative committee, collected formal statements from assembly staff and eyewitnesses after disturbances erupted during Afridi’s visit, Punjab Assembly Secretariat sources said.
The PTI-backed KP CM visited Lahore on December 26, 2025, for a three-day political engagement, including an official stop at the Punjab Assembly. However, the visit was disrupted by altercations between members of his delegation and the assembly’s security personnel.
According to the report, assembly staff requested that accompanying individuals verify their identities, but security officials were reportedly pushed aside in the process. Video footage has identified those involved in the commotion.
The inquiry report, along with supporting evidence, is set to be submitted to the Punjab Inspector General (IG), and the committee is expected to recommend legal action against those implicated.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan had previously suggested initiating legal proceedings against the individuals responsible for the chaos, noting that some attendees were not on the approved visitors’ list.
In response, KP Chief Minister Afridi expressed strong concern over the events and lodged a formal protest with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. In his letter dated December 29, 2025, Afridi said: “I write to you with deep concern and strong exception to the manner in which my recent visit to the Province of Punjab was handled, and the events that deliberately unfolded during and after the visit.”
He further alleged that the incidents were deliberate rather than administrative errors, stating the actions were “neither accidental nor administrative in nature” and described them as inconsistent with “the dignity of constitutional office and the spirit of inter-provincial respect.”
