PTI Stages Sit-In Outside Supreme Court After CJ Meeting Denied
ISLAMABAD: After being refused a meeting with Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, representatives of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held a protest sit-in outside the Supreme Court on Friday.
Sohail Afridi, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, arrived at the Supreme Court with prominent PTI figures in an attempt to meet with the chief justice; however, they were greeted by the registrar of the Supreme Court.
After spending roughly ten minutes with the registrar, PTI attorney Salman Akram Raja and prominent politician Latif Khosa had a separate meeting with the attorney general.
According to witnesses, a sizable security force was stationed both inside and outside the Supreme Court, and extra jail vans were placed close by as a precaution.
The demonstration coincides with PTI’s worries over Imran Khan, its jailed founder and former prime minister, and his health and medical care.
Speaking to media outside the Supreme Court, Afridi claimed that Khan’s family and attorneys were not informed when he was transported from Adiala jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for an eye operation.
Afridi stated, “The family was not informed that the matter has moved from Adiala to PIMS.” “The lack of a retina specialist at PIMS is the biggest concern.”
He added that jail officials were required by law to tell family members if a convict was sent to a hospital, but the government denied for five days that Khan had been moved for treatment.
Afridi stated, “We were only able to meet the registrar, but we came to meet the chief justice.” “We’ll keep sitting here until we hear back.”
Afridi added that even though Khan’s name was on the list of guests, PTI leaders were not allowed to see him.
Afridi responded that he was not aware of the specifics when asked about rumors that an Islamabad court had issued arrest warrants for him. “I want them to arrest me,” he said in response to a query concerning a potential arrest outside the court. I’m prepared.
According to Salman Akram Raja, Khan had surgery at the PIMS, but the fact was kept secret by the authorities.
“When a prisoner is taken to the hospital, the law mandates that the family be informed,” he stated.
Khosa called on the chief justice to step in, calling Khan a “red line” for the party and stating that no expert was present at the PIMS to handle a retinal rupture case.
The PTI leaders declared that they would not stop protesting until they were given guarantees on Khan’s medical treatment and access for his family and attorneys.
