Govt Keeps Petrol Prices Unchanged Despite Global Surge

27 March, 2026 21:52

The Prime Minister has announced that the prices of petroleum products will be maintained at their current levels. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formally rejected the proposal to increase the price of petrol by Rs 95 and diesel by Rs 203 per liter.

Despite the global surge in fuel costs, the prime minister emphasized that the government will bear an additional financial burden of Rs 56 billion this week to protect the public. He stated that nothing is more precious than the economic security of the people and noted that while citizens in other countries are lining up at petrol pumps due to global shortages, the government is prioritizing relief for Pakistanis.

The prime minister further stressed that austerity has now become a shared national responsibility. While prices of petroleum products have increased in countries around the world, the government remains committed to stabilizing the domestic market to shield the common man from inflation.
