BRT Red Line Karachi project will not be halted: Sharjeel Memon

03 May, 2026 16:05

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon has confirmed that construction work on Karachi’s Bus Rapid Transit system, the Karachi BRT Red Line, will continue despite ongoing court proceedings.

He stated that the government has been compelled to make “difficult decisions” to ensure timely progress on the project, which is considered a major infrastructure development for the city.

Sharjeel Memon explained that the pace of construction has improved after the project was handed over to the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO). He added that the previous contractor’s agreement was terminated due to unresolved issues that had slowed progress.

Acknowledging public inconvenience, particularly along University Road, he said the government is fully aware of the disruption caused by the ongoing construction. However, he emphasized that the administration is “not sitting idle” and assured that the affected road sections would be cleared within three months.

Calling the project a long-term investment, the minister said the BRT Red Line will benefit not only current residents but future generations as well. He remarked that meaningful development often requires tough decisions.

Addressing legal challenges related to the project, Memon expressed confidence in a fair judicial outcome. However, he clearly stated that construction work will continue regardless of court decisions.

He further added that the project would not be stopped under any circumstances, even if it leads to contempt of court proceedings, reaffirming the government’s commitment to completing the BRT Red Line.
