Pakistan Cuts Petrol and Diesel Prices by Rs5 Per Litre Amid Global Oil Market Fluctuations

16 May, 2026 10:17

The government of Pakistan has officially reduced petrol and diesel prices by Rs5 per litre, according to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division.

Under the revised pricing structure, petrol will now cost Rs409.78 per litre, while high-speed diesel has been set at Rs409.58 per litre. The updated rates came into immediate effect following the official announcement.

Authorities stated that the adjustment is part of Pakistan’s routine biweekly review of fuel prices, which is based on changes in international crude oil and petroleum product markets.

Officials said the policy aims to align domestic fuel prices with global trends, ensuring periodic adjustments based on fluctuations in international energy markets.

The statement further highlighted that global fuel pricing remains volatile due to ongoing geopolitical developments, including supply disruptions and regional conflicts affecting energy markets.

Meanwhile, neighboring India has reportedly increased export duties on petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel following changes in its domestic pricing strategy.

Indian authorities set export duties on petrol at 3 rupees per litre, while diesel and aviation fuel exports face higher levies as part of their revised tax structure.

Officials in both countries emphasized that fuel pricing remains closely linked to global crude oil trends, with regular reviews conducted every two weeks to reflect market changes.
