The Sindh government has decided to establish a modern terminal outside Karachi city for trucks, trailers, and heavy loading vehicles to reduce traffic congestion and improve the urban transport system. The new heavy vehicles terminal will be constructed on the Northern Bypass, while a dedicated heavy vehicle track will also be built to connect Karachi Port with the proposed terminal.

The announcement was made during an important meeting of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority Board chaired by Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting focused on improving urban transport systems in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur through modern infrastructure and environmentally friendly transport projects.

According to Sharjeel Inam Memon, the heavy vehicle terminal and special track project will significantly reduce heavy traffic pressure inside Karachi and enhance transportation efficiency. The initiative aims to provide better logistics management and safer roads for citizens.

During the meeting, the board also approved the launch of an EV taxi service in Karachi. Officials decided to speed up the financial evaluation process to ensure early implementation of the project.

The Sindh government further approved the purchase of 50 new double decker buses for Karachi to improve passenger mobility and reduce pressure on public transport. Each double decker bus will have a capacity of 126 passengers, helping thousands of commuters daily.

In another major decision, the board approved the purchase of 500 additional Pink EV Scooties for women. Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the Pink EV Scooty Scheme has become a revolutionary initiative for women empowerment across Sindh. He added that within one year, the project has transformed public perception regarding women’s mobility and independence.

The board also approved the acquisition of 500 electric buses under a public-private partnership model. Out of these, 450 EV buses will operate on 25 routes in Karachi, while 50 buses will run on five routes in Hyderabad.

To support the growing EV transport network, the government will establish five modern EV depots across Sindh, including four in Karachi and one in Hyderabad. The next phase of the EV bus project will later be expanded to Sukkur and other districts of Sindh.

Additionally, the board approved the construction of a parking plaza near Maula Ali Qadam Gah in Hyderabad to provide better parking facilities for visitors and residents. The Sindh government also decided that all future traffic signals in the province will operate on solar power systems.
