President Asif Zardari welcomes signing of Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has welcomed the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, calling it a historic moment for the region and the world.
The president said the conflict had caused severe hardships for people in the region and also affected global energy supply, trade, and economic stability. He expressed hope that such a situation would not arise again.
He urged regional countries to focus on development, prosperity, and public welfare.
Appreciation for diplomatic efforts
President Zardari praised the diplomatic efforts of Field Marshal Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
He said Pakistan played a balanced, principled, and constructive role during the crisis by supporting dialogue, restraint, and peaceful resolution.
He also appreciated the roles of the US President, Iranian leadership, and Abbas Araghchi in the process.
The president further acknowledged the efforts of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Egypt, Russia, and China in supporting peace initiatives.
Call for implementation and peace
President Zardari urged all parties to ensure full implementation of the Islamabad MoU and intensify efforts to reach a final agreement within the given timeframe.
He said those who end wars are the real heroes, adding that war only brings destruction while peace is the only path to progress.
He reaffirmed that Pakistan will continue to stand with efforts for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
