Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb has announced that the government has rolled out a new digital system incorporating facial recognition technology for pensioners, enabling them to complete their verification process from home and avoid the inconvenience of visiting banks in person.

Addressing the National Assembly session on Saturday, the federal minister shared details related to the budget, noting that this new measure will allow elderly pensioners to verify their identity using facial recognition technology.

Aurangzeb stated that, through this system, pensioners would be able to complete their verification process from the comfort of their own homes.

Elaborating further on the budget, the minister noted that the government has implemented a range of comprehensive measures aimed at broadening the tax base.

He emphasized that leveraging digitalization and artificial intelligence to eliminate discretionary powers remains one of the government’s core objectives. He also added that the government has significantly increased the salaries and pensions of government employees.

Economic Indicators Show Improvement

Discussing the country’s economic indicators, Aurangzeb noted that all key metrics have shown significant improvement over the past year, pointing out that the current account is now in surplus.

He further informed the assembly that overseas Pakistanis sent a substantial $4.25 billion in remittances, while Pakistani freelancers contributed an impressive $1.6 billion to the national economy.
