Balochistan Announces Two-Day Ashura 2026 Public Holiday as Security Measures Intensify

23 June, 2026 20:13

The Government of Balochistan has officially announced a two-day public holiday across the province in observance of Ashura 2026, marking the 9th and 10th of Muharram.

According to an official notification, all provincial government offices, educational institutions, and autonomous organizations will remain closed on June 25 and June 26. The decision has been taken to uphold the sanctity of Ashura and facilitate citizens participating in religious processions and gatherings held across the province.

The announcement follows a similar decision by the Federal Government, which earlier declared public holidays for Ashura throughout the country. Earlier this week, the Cabinet Division issued a notification confirming the observance of Ashura holidays at the national level.

Meanwhile, authorities have implemented enhanced security arrangements during Muharram. In the federal capital, pillion riding has been banned during Muharram processions, while mobile communication networks are being closely monitored as a precautionary security measure.

In Balochistan, law enforcement agencies have been placed on high alert, and strict security measures have been deployed along procession routes to ensure the safety of participants and maintain public order during Ashura observances.

Officials have stated that the coordinated security plan aims to facilitate peaceful religious activities while ensuring the protection of citizens throughout the holy month.
