Passport fee payments to go fully digital in Pakistan from July 1

23 June, 2026 16:20

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has announced that cash payments at passport offices across Pakistan will end from July 1, 2026.

The decision was announced during a meeting chaired by DG Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa with zonal heads. Officials said passport fees will only be accepted through QR code-based digital payments after the deadline.

Authorities also said that a new passport mobile application will be launched soon. The app will allow Pakistani citizens in Pakistan and abroad to apply for passports online.

Under the new system, applicants will also be able to receive their passports at their homes, making the process easier and more convenient.

Officials further said that the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports plans to issue only e-passports in the future.

However, existing machine-readable passports will remain valid until their expiry dates and can continue to be used without any issue.

The government says these changes are part of efforts to digitize public services and modernize the passport system across the country.
