Pakistan pays tribute to Kargil hero Havaldar Lalak Jan on martyrdom anniversary

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan on Tuesday solemnly commemorated the martyrdom anniversary of Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed, paying heartfelt tribute to one of the nation’s most revered war heroes whose courage, devotion, and supreme sacrifice during the Kargil conflict continue to inspire generations.
The civil and military leadership of the country honoured the martyred soldier for his extraordinary bravery in the line of duty, remembering him as a symbol of patriotism, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the defence of the homeland.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in separate statements, paid rich tribute to Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed, describing his sacrifice during the Kargil War of 1999 as a lasting source of pride for the nation.
President Zardari said the sacrifices of Pakistan’s martyrs are the guarantee of a secure, strong, and dignified future for the country. He said Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed set a shining example of unmatched courage, steadfastness, and devotion to duty in the defence of the motherland.
The president added that the sacrifices of the martyrs form the foundation of Pakistan’s security, sovereignty, and national dignity, and that the nation will always remember them with reverence and pride.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed’s courage, bravery, and supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War remain a matter of honour for the entire nation. He said the martyred soldier’s decision to remain steadfast in the face of enemy fire despite suffering critical injuries reflected an extraordinary spirit of patriotism and commitment to Pakistan.
The prime minister reaffirmed that the nation would never forget the sacrifice of this great son of the soil, nor the sacrifices of the countless other martyrs who laid down their lives for the defence of Pakistan.
The military leadership also paid tribute to the Kargil hero. Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, and the Armed Forces of Pakistan honoured the martyred hero and remembered his immortal legacy with profound respect.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations, Havaldar Lalak Jan displayed exceptional gallantry and unwavering resolve on this day in 1999 while defending his post against repeated enemy attacks during the Kargil conflict. Despite sustaining critical injuries, he refused evacuation and continued to fight with unshakable determination until he embraced martyrdom in the line of duty.
The military’s media wing said his immortal sacrifice remains a shining symbol of courage, resilience, and selfless service. It added that the Armed Forces of Pakistan and the entire nation honour his enduring legacy with deep gratitude and respect, while his life continues to inspire present and future generations to uphold the highest ideals of duty, honour, and patriotism.
Pakistan’s civil and military leadership reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to preserving the sacred trust of the Shuhada-e-Pakistan and defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity with the same spirit of courage, honour, and sacrifice shown by Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed.
