Pakistan’s Key Diplomatic Role in Iran-US Ceasefire Puts Modi’s Foreign Policy Under Scrutiny
Pakistan’s diplomatic role in efforts related to the Iran-US ceasefire has drawn attention, while reports and analysts have raised questions about India’s foreign policy.
According to the American magazine Foreign Policy, some Indian policymakers believe India’s importance to the United States, especially as a counterweight to China, has declined.
American analyst Edward Luce said it will be very difficult for India to match China’s influence in the coming decades.
The report also said India is facing pressure from the United States through higher tariffs, increased H-1B visa fees, and restrictions linked to the purchase of Russian oil.
According to Foreign Policy, US President Donald Trump’s decision to accept Pakistan as a mediator in talks aimed at ending the Iran conflict was seen as a setback for India.
Indian analyst Dr. Harinder Sekhon said that during President Trump’s second term, especially after Operation Sindoor, India has come under tougher US policies.
The report added that continued US engagement with Pakistan and regional developments, including tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, have affected US-India relations.
It also said India’s policies prevented it from playing a mediation role in the Iran conflict, while Pakistan was able to take part in diplomatic efforts.
The report further noted that India’s opposition to third-party mediation on the Kashmir issue remains a key part of its foreign policy.
Senior Indian journalist Neelu Vyas criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning how the leader of what she described as a coalition government could take a strong position against the United States.
