Death Toll Rises to 11 Following Roof Collapse in Kohat

14 July, 2026 09:31

The death toll from a roof collapse in Lachi Malgin, Kohat, has risen to 11 after two additional injured individuals succumbed to their injuries, according to hospital sources reported Tuesday.

The tragic structural failure occurred when heavy rains and strong winds caused a house roof to cave in. The incident immediately resulted in multiple casualties and injuries requiring emergency medical response.

Casualties and Injuries:

Hospital sources documented that 14 individuals sustained injuries requiring hospitalization for treatment. The deceased were transported to the hospital for documentation and identification. As rescue and treatment operations continued, additional injured victims died from sustained injuries, raising the death toll progressively.

Hospital sources confirmed Tuesday that another child injured in the collapse succumbed while receiving medical treatment, bringing total fatalities to 11.

Eyewitness Accounts:

Student survivors provided detailed descriptions of the collapse sequence. One student reported that construction workers had been laying bricks on the roof when structural failure occurred. The student’s brother was buried under debris and died; the student narrowly escaped the collapse.

Another student described classroom conditions at the time of collapse, stating the class had been completing an assignment when the roof suddenly gave way without warning.

A young girl survivor reported becoming trapped when a water cooler fell on her leg during the collapse. Construction workers and family members subsequently rescued her from the debris.

Structural and Construction Issues:

Residents reported that construction work was underway on the roof at the time of the incident. Multiple accounts indicate the structure was already deteriorating before the collapse occurred. The combination of ongoing construction, pre-existing structural weakness, and severe weather created conditions enabling catastrophic failure.

Previous Incidents:

Earlier this month, a separate incident resulted in 14 children’s deaths, with five children and one female teacher injured. Two additional children received first aid at the scene. The female teacher is currently receiving treatment at Lahore General Hospital.

Construction Safety Concerns:

The incident highlights structural integrity concerns affecting residential buildings during severe weather. The ongoing construction work on the roof at time of collapse raises questions regarding construction safety protocols and structural assessment procedures.
