Makkah Defence Pact Important Development for Muslim Countries, Hafiz Naeem

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has described the Makkah Defence Pact as an important development for Muslim countries, saying the government is responsible for creating an environment conducive to peace and stability. He also urged the Afghan government to ensure that its territory is not used for terrorism and to play its role in promoting regional peace.

Hafiz Naeem strongly criticized the government over rising petroleum prices and the burden of inflation on the public. He said the people had been hit by an “inflation bomb,” adding that an increase in petrol prices leads to higher prices of almost every commodity. He maintained that petroleum prices had not increased anywhere in the world as sharply as they had in Pakistan.

The Jamaat-e-Islami chief said the government had already collected more than Rs8 trillion in petroleum levy from the people. He said the government collected around Rs1.9 trillion under the levy last year against the target of Rs1.7 trillion. Hafiz Naeem said the current petrol price was unacceptable and called for immediate measures to provide relief to the people.
