Federal Govt Approves Army Deployment in Rawalpindi for Six Months
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has approved the deployment of three companies of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi to help maintain law and order and strengthen security arrangements.
The Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control issued the notification under Article 245 of the Constitution. The decision was taken after a request from the Punjab Home Department through a letter dated July 22, 2026.
According to the notification, the Army will be deployed for sensitive security duties to prevent any undesirable situation and deal with unforeseen circumstances.
The troops will assist the Rawalpindi district administration in maintaining law and order, particularly at sensitive locations and important routes.
The deployment will take effect immediately and will remain in place for six months.
The notification said the Army will provide assistance to the district administration whenever required and help authorities respond effectively to any untoward situation.
