Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman Announces Nationwide Strike Over Rising Petrol Prices

Lahore: Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman has said the government will have to reduce petrol prices, warning that his party will announce a nationwide strike after 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal. Addressing the media in Lahore, he called on youth, women and families to participate in the protest movement, saying the party’s struggle was progressing effectively.

Hafiz Naeem said farmers were not receiving fertilizer at affordable prices and criticized the government’s handling of sugar imports. He said 765,000 tonnes of sugar had been imported with claims that it would become cheaper, but the sugar imported without taxes had instead become more expensive.

He alleged that oil, sugar and flour mafias were operating in the country and said the protests would continue. Hafiz Naeem announced that sit-ins would remain in place and protest camps would also be established across the country as part of Jamaat-e-Islami’s campaign.
