Judicial Commission to Probe Mir Raza Case: Karachi Mayor

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced that a judicial commission will be formed to investigate the Mir Raza case, saying the government is committed to ensuring justice for the deceased and his family. He said the loss of a child is an immense tragedy for any family and stressed that whoever was responsible for the “brutal act” must be brought to light and punished according to the law.

Wahab said medical reports from Jinnah Hospital had been shared with police after the incident came to light on July 27. He said conflicting medical reports had emerged before a final medical report was submitted following an investigation, while questions were also raised over the role of the initial investigation team. He added that Mir Raza’s mother had expressed satisfaction with the investigation team headed by the DIG.

The mayor said the government’s priority was to satisfy Mir Raza’s parents and reach the truth. He said a lawyer had written to the Sindh chief minister on August 19, alleging that the police, interior minister and inspector general had failed to deliver justice and calling for an internal inquiry against the police. Wahab said the government would provide the judicial commission with all evidence and assistance required for a comprehensive investigation.
