Islamabad PIMS Hospital Fire: 15 Newborns Dead, Several Injured
ISLAMABAD: At least 15 newborns lost their lives after a fire broke out in the gynaecology ward of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad on Wednesday.
According to hospital officials, 16 newborns were in the nursery when the fire started, but only one baby was rescued. Rescue sources said the blaze began after an air-conditioner compressor exploded inside the nursery.
Rescue teams rushed to the hospital and managed to put out the fire. Cooling operations were later carried out at the site as officials worked to assess the situation and determine exactly what caused the tragic incident.
