29 August, 2026 18:00

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has convened a meeting in Islamabad to review the preliminary inquiry report into the PIMS incident. The meeting, chaired by the prime minister, is reviewing matters related to the incident and the initial findings of the inquiry committee. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Information Minister Atta Tarar are among those attending, with important decisions expected regarding action against those found responsible.

According to sources, the inquiry report recommends removing the Executive Director of PIMS along with 10 senior officers and relevant staff members from their positions. The committee, headed by Shahid Khan, reportedly held senior officials responsible for negligence and lack of proper oversight. The report also incorporates recommendations from incumbent acting secretary Captain (retd.) Mahmood.

The inquiry committee has recommended professional appointments to replace officials removed from their posts and called for a formal governing board to oversee PIMS, the largest government hospital in Islamabad. The report said the hospital had been operating without an effective professional and administrative structure and recommended establishing a dedicated board to ensure regular monitoring and provide a proper governance framework.
