PM Shehbaz Sharif Begins Three-Day Visit to Kyrgyzstan to Attend SCO Summit

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to begin a three-day official visit to Kyrgyzstan today (Monday) at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov, the Foreign Office said.

The visit, scheduled from August 31 to September 2, will include the prime minister’s participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting as well as bilateral engagements with the Kyrgyz leadership.

Prime Minister Shehbaz will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar and senior government officials.

During his stay in Bishkek, Prime Minister Shehbaz will participate in the SCO Plus Summit and assume Pakistan’s chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026-27.

The prime minister is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with leaders of participating countries on the sidelines of the SCO meetings.

He will further attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games on August 31.

On September 2, Prime Minister Shehbaz will hold comprehensive talks with President Sadyr Zhaparov on Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations.

The two sides are expected to review bilateral ties and explore avenues for expanding cooperation in trade and investment, energy, regional connectivity, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

The leaders will also discuss regional and international developments of mutual interest and cooperation through regional and multilateral forums.

The Foreign Office said Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan enjoy warm and fraternal relations based on shared history, faith and cultural ties, as well as common aspirations for peace, connectivity and prosperity across Central and South Asia.

The prime minister’s visit is expected to build on recent high-level diplomatic exchanges, strengthen bilateral cooperation and translate existing political goodwill into practical initiatives.

The visit will also provide an opportunity for Pakistan to deepen engagement with Central Asian countries and advance its objectives of greater regional connectivity, trade and economic cooperation.
