Pakistan Rejects India’s Claims on Occupied Jammu and Kashmir

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has rejected India’s claims regarding occupied Jammu and Kashmir, reiterating that unilateral actions by New Delhi cannot alter the disputed status of the region.
Foreign Office spokesperson said the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is internationally recognised and remains unresolved, stressing that its final status must be determined according to the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
The spokesperson said United Nations Security Council resolutions remain the basis for resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
Pakistan also pointed out that official United Nations maps continue to identify Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory.
The Foreign Office said India’s so-called official maps and unilateral claims of sovereignty have no legal standing and cannot change the internationally recognised disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.
The spokesperson reiterated that the final status of Jammu and Kashmir should be determined in accordance with the will of the Kashmiri people.
Pakistan called on India to fulfil its commitments regarding the right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination and to stop actions that undermine their rights.
The Foreign Office also urged India to immediately halt human rights violations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan called on the international community to play its role in pressing India to respect international law, implement relevant UN resolutions and end human rights violations in the occupied territory.
The spokesperson reaffirmed Pakistan’s position that unilateral measures cannot settle the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and that a lasting solution must reflect the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
