Terror Crime Network Facilitating Terrorism Active in Pakistan: Talal Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Senator Talal Chaudhry has said an organised “terror-crime network” is operating alongside terrorism in Pakistan, using activities such as smuggling, drug trafficking, illegal petroleum trade and arms supply to facilitate terrorist operations.

Speaking at a press conference, Talal Chaudhry said some individuals describe these activities as business, but the government considers them part of a wider terror-crime network supporting terrorist groups.

He said the network includes vehicle smuggling, drug trafficking, illegal petroleum products and arms supply, with weapons and other resources allegedly reaching individuals ranging from ordinary criminals to larger organised networks.

Talal Chaudhry referred to the recent proscription of a political group in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, saying questions had been raised over whether it represented a political platform advocating Kashmiri rights or whether the ban was politically motivated.

He said the government had made clear that the organisation was proscribed on the basis of available evidence and that investigations into the matter were continuing.

The minister also referred to audio recordings circulating on social media, saying questions had been raised over whether some of the recordings were generated using artificial intelligence or had been digitally manipulated.

He stressed that the authenticity of such material should be determined through evidence and formal investigations rather than political arguments.

The minister also alleged that an individual in Azad Jammu and Kashmir had been involved in supplying weapons to different people for several years.

According to Talal Chaudhry, the individual, identified as Zia, had allegedly been involved in arms supply for around eight to 10 years.

He further alleged that during the past two years, Zia had been directly supplying weapons to members of a particular group.

Talal Chaudhry said further action was being taken on the basis of evidence uncovered during the investigation.

The minister said the government had evidence concerning terrorism and networks that allegedly provide support to militant activities.

He urged that such cases should be examined on the basis of facts, evidence and ongoing investigations rather than being given a political interpretation.

Talal Chaudhry said authorities were continuing to investigate the alleged links between criminal activities, arms trafficking and terrorism in order to identify those involved and disrupt networks that facilitate militant operations.

The allegations made by the minister regarding specific individuals and organisations remain subject to investigation and legal proceedings.
