Family of five found dead in Karachi’s Bin Qasim house

13 October, 2026 08:47

Police are investigating the deaths of five members of a family whose bodies were discovered inside a house in a private housing society in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Hadeed area, with preliminary findings pointing towards a possible suicide.

According to police officials, investigators are examining whether financial hardship played a role in the deaths. A written note recovered from the scene reportedly describes the difficulties faced by Shahzaib, the deceased head of the family, including his financial circumstances and inability to meet household expenses.

The victims were identified by rescue officials as 40-year-old Shahzaib, his 40-year-old wife, Saba, their daughters Ezel, five, and Arya, four, and Shahzaib’s 18-year-old sister, Shamaila. The discovery prompted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding all five deaths.

Police said the note contains a passage in which Shahzaib reflects on the contrast between his family’s former financial position and his current situation. He reportedly wrote that he had been born into a millionaire household but had reached a point where he possessed nothing. The note also refers to difficulties obtaining money to buy milk for his children.

Investigators are examining Shahzaib’s employment and financial history as part of the inquiry. Police officials said he had not been working recently and had previously depended on his father for financial support. After his father’s death, he reportedly sold inherited property to cover living expenses.

Authorities have not established a final cause of death, and the preliminary assessment remains subject to further investigation. Police also intend to send the recovered note for forensic examination to establish its authenticity and support the reconstruction of events inside the house.

Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho has sought a report from the relevant deputy inspector general and directed officials to investigate the case transparently and impartially. He called for the collection and examination of physical evidence, forensic procedures and compliance with all legal requirements.

The police have also been instructed to examine every aspect of the incident, including whether any criminal element was involved, rather than reaching a conclusion before the evidence has been assessed. Investigators are expected to establish the circumstances and sequence of events through forensic findings and other available evidence.

The case has drawn attention to the severe consequences that financial distress can have on families, although the precise circumstances behind these deaths remain unconfirmed. Economic difficulties should not be treated as the established cause until investigators complete their work.

The forensic examination of the note, evidence collected from the house and the final findings of the investigation will be important in determining what happened. Police have not yet announced a conclusive explanation for the deaths.
