07 March, 2024 11:24

Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson emerged as one of the top contender to land Pakistan coaching role as Mohsin Naqvi and co. mulling over to finalize the candidate ahead of New Zealand series.

The Men in Green are without the Head Coach after the resignation from Mohammad Hafeez, who had a disastrous run.

Two names – Darren Sammy and Mike Hesson – are already in consideration for the Naqvi-led regime.

Both Hesson and Sammy are associated with the HBL Pakistan Super League franchises Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi respectively.

However, when things are going in their favour, Watson, 42, emerged as surprising candidate for the job. He is also working with HBL PSL franchise Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing season nine.

A decision is likely to be taken soon regarding the coaches.

Moreover, the board is also mulling over to land Sir Vivian Richards for mentorship of the Men in Green.

The appointment will be made ahead of the New Zealand tour of Pakistan in April. They will play five T20Is from the second week of the month.

Matches are expected to be played in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
