Sindh Assembly to elect speaker, deputy speaker today

Election for Sindh Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be held today.

Earlier, 147 out of 168 newly elected members took oath.

The nomination papers of Pakistan People’s Party’s candidate for Speaker Syed Owais Shah and Deputy Speaker Naveed Anthony have been already declared valid.

The PPP leadership wants to see election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Sindh Assembly as unopposed.

According to the sources, PPP leaders Nasir Hussain Shah and Sharjeel Memon have been given the responsibility of talking to MQM-P leaders.

Earlier, 111 newly-elected members of PPP and 36 members of MQM-P took oath.

Candidates of Jamaat-e-Islami, GDA and PTI did not come to take oath.

Yesterday, during the second session of the Punjab Assembly, PML-N’s Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan and Malik Zahiraq Iqbal were elected as Speaker and  Deputy Speaker respectively.
