Apple’s first foldable iPhone: Expected launch date, price, and details
Apple seems to be getting closer to launching its first-ever foldable iPhone, with reports from reliable tech insiders hinting at a possible 2026 release date. If this happens, it would be a big step for Apple, bringing it in line with brands like Samsung and Huawei, which already have foldable phones on the market.
Design Like a Book
According to tech journalist Mark Gurman (Bloomberg), Apple’s foldable phone will likely open like a book, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold. Leaks suggest it will have a 5.5-inch outer screen and a 7.8-inch inner display that unfolds into a mini tablet. The inner screen might be almost crease-free, thanks to a new metal plate design that spreads pressure evenly when folded.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the phone could feature a titanium frame with a titanium and stainless-steel hinge for strength. Some sources also mention “liquid metal” to make the hinge smoother and reduce creases. So far, Apple has tested black and white colors, but more options may come later.
Camera and Features
Rumors suggest the foldable iPhone may have four cameras — two on the back, one on the cover, and one on the inner display. Each rear camera could be 48MP. Instead of Face ID, Apple might use Touch ID on the power button to save space.
The phone is also expected to run on Apple’s new C2 modem chip for better connectivity and may not include a physical SIM slot, supporting eSIM only. A high-density battery could also give users longer battery life.
Production and Price
Apple’s main supplier Foxconn is expected to start mass production in late 2026, with testing already underway. The foldable iPhone could cost between $1,800 and $2,500, making it one of Apple’s most expensive models.
If all goes well, the foldable iPhone may arrive in late 2026, though some experts say it could be delayed to 2027. Either way, it looks like Apple is finally preparing to enter the foldable phone market after years of rumors.
