Pinterest launches AI-powered voice search for visual discovery
Pinterest has introduced a new feature called Pinterest Assistant, an AI-powered tool that makes searching more natural and interactive. This new assistant lets users combine voice and images while searching, creating a more personal and easy experience.
Unlike traditional text searches, the Pinterest Assistant can understand both spoken commands and pictures at the same time. For example, a user can tap the microphone and say, “Find shoes that match these pants,” and the assistant will show matching results along with a spoken description.
Pinterest says the tool is “visual-first,” meaning it focuses on understanding images, text, and voice together to show creative visual results rather than just text lists.
The feature is currently being tested in the United States for users aged 18 and older, with plans for a wider global release soon. Pinterest believes the new tool will appeal especially to Gen Z users, who prefer conversational and visual ways of searching over typing long keywords.
By adding this AI assistant, Pinterest is becoming a stronger player in the growing world of conversational shopping, where artificial intelligence helps users discover styles and products that match their personal taste.
The assistant uses information like saved boards, past activity, and Pinterest’s “Taste Graph” to offer more personalized recommendations.
In short, Pinterest’s new AI assistant changes how people explore ideas online — turning simple searches into fun, interactive “show and tell” moments.
