How Many Pakistanis Support Second Marriages? Survey Results Out

11 November, 2025 11:42

A recent Gallup survey revealed divided opinions in Pakistan regarding second marriages. According to the survey, 40 percent of Pakistanis support the idea of a second marriage, while 60 percent oppose it. The results were shared on November 10, 2025.

Among those who support second marriages, many said financial stability is an important factor. Men were more likely to support second marriages than women. About 50 percent of men favored the idea, compared to only 30 percent of women.

The survey also asked whether it is possible to treat both wives fairly after a second marriage. Most respondents were skeptical. About 72 percent believed fair treatment is difficult or impossible, while only 26 percent thought it could be done. Interestingly, 59 percent of men who answered said it is not possible to be fair between two wives.

Respondents were asked under what circumstances a second marriage should be allowed. 39 percent said it is acceptable if a couple has no children, 15 percent said the husband must have the ability to treat both wives equally, and 10 percent said the first wife’s consent should be mandatory.

The survey shows that public opinion on second marriages is influenced by financial capacity, the presence of children, and the ability to maintain fairness. It reflects the complex attitudes and expectations in Pakistani society on this sensitive issue.
