Government Announces Public Holiday on 1st January 2026

ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates has announced a public holiday for federal employees on Thursday, 1st January 2026, marking the start of New Year celebrations.

Following the holiday, Friday, 2nd January 2026 will be a remote working day for federal staff. Employees whose duties require on-site presence are expected to report to work as usual.

With the announcement, preparations for New Year festivities are in full swing across the UAE. In Ras Al Khaimah, authorities are planning a 6-kilometer-long fireworks show along the coastline. The event will feature more than 2,300 drones, pyrotechnics, and laser displays, promising a spectacular start to 2026.

Officials encourage residents and visitors to enjoy the celebrations responsibly while adhering to safety guidelines during the public holiday.
