Sindh likely to receive rain starting June 1
The Meteorological Department has issued an emergency heatwave alert for Sindh, warning that extreme and dangerous heat conditions will continue across the province until tomorrow. However, some relief is expected as rain is forecast from June 1.
According to the Met Office, temperatures in most areas of Sindh will remain 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal. In cities such as Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Dadu, temperatures may rise as high as 50°C.
Other areas including Qambar Shahdadkot, Moenjo Daro, Ghotki, and Khairpur are also expected to face severe heat. In Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, and Mirpurkhas, temperatures may reach around 47°C.
Despite the ongoing heatwave, weather experts have predicted light to moderate rainfall along with dust storms and thunderstorms in parts of the province starting June 1. Areas like Qambar Shahdadkot, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar may receive rain, which could help reduce the heat.
The department has also warned that electricity demand may increase significantly due to the hot weather, which could put pressure on the power supply system, including in Karachi.
Health officials have advised people, especially children, women, and the elderly, to take extra precautions. Citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and drink plenty of water to stay safe during the heatwave.
Farmers have also been advised to protect their crops and livestock from the extreme temperatures.
Authorities have instructed the Sindh government and district administrations to stay alert and be ready for any emergency situations, including cases of heatstroke.
