PMD warns of extreme heat across country till June 12
Pakistan is expected to continue facing high temperatures until June 12, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast ongoing heatwave conditions across most parts of the country.
According to the PMD, plain areas will remain under intense heat, while some regions may receive rainfall later this week, including Islamabad, parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northern areas.
The department said temperatures are likely to rise further between June 9 and June 12. Upper regions may stay 4 to 6°C above normal, while southern and lower areas could see temperatures 5 to 7°C above normal, making the heatwave more severe.
Officials warned that extreme heat will continue in Islamabad, northern Punjab, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until June 10. People have been advised to avoid going out in the sun during peak hours and to stay hydrated.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also predicted rain in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Punjab on June 11 and 12, including Rawalpindi and Lahore. This rainfall may bring temporary relief from the heat.
In Sindh, hot weather will continue in cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana, with no major relief expected during the forecast period.
Parts of Balochistan, including Zhob and Musa Khel, may receive rain with thunder and lightning on June 11 and 12. Similar weather conditions are also expected in Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Mansehra, and Abbottabad.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising citizens to stay updated with official weather alerts as the country experiences both extreme heat and incoming rain systems.
