Flu virus breaks 15-year record in US
This winter’s flu virus has reached its peak in the United States and recent data shows it has broken a 15-year record.
The severity of the flu virus is detected by the proportion of flu-infected patients who are making rounds of hospitals and clinics.
According to data posted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of patients last week was markedly higher than any winter flu season since 2009-2010.
Of course, other viral infections can be mistakenly considered flu, such as coronavirus and RSV, but the coronavirus is decreasing at normal levels while the respiratory disease RSV is disappearing.
The flu outbreak has forced schools to close in some US states.
A total of 43 states reported more or too many viral infections of the flu last week. The virus affected the southern, southwestern and western states the most.
