US airstrikes on Yemen’s Ras Isa oil port leave 33 dead
The US military launched airstrikes on the Ras Isa oil port in western Yemen, resulting in the deaths of dozens of workers and paramedics, and injuring many more.
The facility, located in Hudaydah governorate, was struck twice on Thursday night. The second strike occurred while civil defense teams were battling fires and retrieving victims from the first attack, killing at least five emergency responders.
According to reports from the Palestinian Information Center and al-Manar TV, the death toll has risen to at least 33, with around 80 others wounded.
The Yemeni government condemned the attack as a blatant war crime, accusing the United States of aiding the Israeli regime and facilitating its ongoing assault on Gaza. Officials stated that the US is deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure under false pretenses.
They also warned that the incident would not go unanswered, pledging retaliation and predicting that the U.S. would face “humiliating defeat and failure” as a result.
The US military claimed that the Ras Isa port was being used to supply fuel to the Ansarullah movement, also known as the Houthis.
In addition to the attack on Ras Isa, airstrikes were also reported in the governorates of Sana’a, al-Bayda, and Hudaydah.
The US has stepped up its military campaign in Yemen over the past month under direct orders from President Donald Trump, stating that the operations are intended to protect shipping lanes in the region, which it says have been threatened by actions from the Sana’a-based authorities.
