Pahalgam incident: US responds to rising Pak-India tensions

The United States has issued a response to the rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent deadly attack in Pahalgam, located in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Reaffirming its strong condemnation of the violence, the U.S. emphasized that those responsible for the attack must be held accountable. At a press briefing, U.S. State Department spokesperson Timmy Bruce extended condolences to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery for the injured.

When asked about former President Donald Trump’s earlier offer to mediate between India and Pakistan during his first term, Bruce declined to comment, stating that she had nothing further to say on the matter.

She noted that both Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio had already made their positions on the issue clear in public statements, and reiterated that she had no additional remarks to provide.

Regarding the U.S. role in easing current India-Pakistan tensions, Bruce described the situation as still evolving. She assured that Washington is closely monitoring developments, but clarified that the United States does not currently take a position on the territorial status of Jammu and Kashmir.
