Public holiday announced on 27 June

16 June, 2025 17:52

The UAE government has officially declared Friday, June 27, 2025, as a public holiday for all federal government employees to mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year, 1447 AH.

This announcement was made by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR). With the holiday falling on a Friday, public sector workers will enjoy a three-day weekend, as work will resume on Monday, June 30.

The holiday is part of the UAE Cabinet’s approved list of official holidays for 2025. The exact date of the Hijri New Year is confirmed by moon sighting, which marks the start of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic lunar calendar.

Muharram is considered one of the four sacred months in Islam, making the Islamic New Year an important time for many Muslims.

This holiday follows shortly after the Eid Al Adha break earlier in the month. While the private sector’s holiday schedule is usually announced separately, it often matches the public sector. However, there is no official update yet about leave for private sector employees.

Residents are advised to stay tuned for further announcements regarding any additional holidays.
