Indian Spy Network Targeting Sikhs Abroad Exposed: Bloomberg Report

28 September, 2025 12:13

A new report has exposed alleged criminal networks linked to India’s intelligence agency RAW (Research and Analysis Wing), accused of planning assassinations of Sikh leaders abroad under state sponsorship.

According to Bloomberg, Indian government officials were involved in plotting the killing of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a Sikh separatist leader based in the United States. Documents have reportedly been submitted by federal prosecutors in a New York court, revealing details of the alleged conspiracy.

The report claims that Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national, received direct orders from RAW officer Vikash Yadav to carry out the murder. Gupta was arrested in the Czech Republic in June 2023 and later extradited to the United States.

Prosecutors believe that the same network may also be linked to the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh leader killed in Canada. Both Nijjar and Pannun were close associates and supporters of the Khalistan movement, which seeks a separate Sikh homeland.

The U.S. prosecutors allege that this may be part of a wider, state-backed assassination campaign, with possible plots extending to Nepal and Pakistan as well.

According to The Wire, Gupta now faces trial for conspiring to kill Pannun, who leads the group Sikhs for Justice.

The revelations suggest that India may be using state-sponsored terrorism as a policy tool against Sikh activists, especially those who oppose Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.

Analysts believe that India’s global image as a democracy is under serious scrutiny following these developments.
