Human Rights Groups Warn of Growing Anti-Muslim Bias in India
New Delhi: Systematic prejudice, hate crimes, and institutional barriers against Muslims are on the rise in India, which have been exposed by human rights groups and Press TV.
According to experts, these measures are the result of the growing influence of right-wing extremist groups in the country.
In Maharashtra, three Muslim students were forced to bow before an idol for praying, while in the city of Agra, a 64-year-old Muslim taxi driver was forced to chant the religious slogan “Jai Shri Ram” by two youths.
A two-story Muslim market in Bareilly city was demolished without legal action, and protesting Muslims were arrested.
Right-wing groups are also making hate speeches and threats against Muslims on social media.
Government policies are fueling Islamophobia and sectarian tensions, and the properties of those who speak out in favor of Muslims are being destroyed.
Experts and human rights organizations have warned that this behavior amounts to an attempt to eliminate the religious and political identity of Muslims in the country and that urgent measures are needed to control these manifestations of prejudice and hatred.
