UK Responds to Pakistan’s Demarche Over Harassment
Pakistan has lodged a protest against the harassment and threats of violence against national institutions from British soil, verbally demarching the British Deputy Head of Mission, to which the British High Commission has also issued a response.
A spokesperson for the British High Commission says that police and prosecutors in the UK work independently. If a country believes that a crime has been committed in the UK, it should provide relevant evidence.
The spokesperson said that the relevant material should be provided to the police liaison officer in the UK, after which the British police will review the material for possible violations of the law. According to the British High Commission, this police review may also lead to the initiation of a criminal investigation.
The Foreign Office of Pakistan has strongly protested to the UK over the protest outside the consulate in Bradford. The Foreign Office verbally demarched the British Deputy Head of Mission.
Pakistan took the stand that despite the inappropriate speech of the protesters, no action was taken against them. Sources say that British High Commissioner Jane Marriott is not present in the country.
