Iranian Drone Hits US Embassy in Riyadh
Reuters has verified that an Iranian missile or drone struck the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh. Following the attack, which occurred on Monday night, the embassy issued an immediate shelter-in-place order for all personnel and citizens in the Saudi capital.
A spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the embassy was “subjected to an attack by two drones according to initial estimates, resulting in a limited fire and minor material damage to the building.”
In a security alert posted on X, the U.S. Mission to Saudi Arabia stated, “The U.S. Mission has issued a shelter-in-place notification for Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dhahran and is limiting non-essential travel to all military installations in the region.” We recommend that American citizens in the Kingdom shelter in place immediately.”
According to reports from Fox News, the drone attack—which is believed to have originated from Iran—occurred while the embassy was reportedly unoccupied. The State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Post.
