Afghan Taliban Take Extreme Measures: Women’s Rights and Media Under Siege

Afghan Journals Expose Taliban’s Killings and Torture of Ex-Soldiers
KABUL, March 7, 2026: The Afghan Taliban regime has intensified its crackdown on women and girls, extending its ban on education to restrict their access to media as well.
The extremist rulers are reportedly silencing women’s voices and closing local radio stations that allowed girls to participate in educational programs.
According to Afghanistan International and Hesht Subh News, local radio stations suspended operations after receiving calls from girls, highlighting the Taliban’s fear of women’s voices being heard publicly.
The Afghan Journalists Center condemned the closure of the radio station, saying it is a direct attack on independent media. They noted that these stations were providing essential educational programs for girls who are otherwise barred from schools.
The Taliban’s policies now prevent girls not only from attending schools but also from accessing educational content via media channels. Experts say this move reflects the regime’s fear of informed and empowered women challenging their extremist rule.
Human rights analysts emphasize that restricting women’s education and access to media violates international human rights standards.
“Taliban fear the truth and any voice that challenges their authority,” said one observer. “These extremist policies aim to consolidate power while silencing half the population.”
Experts also warn that these actions deepen the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and make it increasingly difficult for women to participate in society.
