Trump Says US Is Looking “Very Strongly” at the Strait Amid Iran War Tensions

12 March, 2026 08:05

Donald Trump said the United States is closely monitoring the strategic shipping route known as the Strait of Hormuz as tensions with Iran continue to rise.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Trump said Washington believes it is in a strong position in the ongoing conflict with Iran.

“We are in very good shape,” Trump said while discussing the situation. He added that the United States would “look very strongly at the straits,” referring to the key maritime passage used for global oil shipments.

Global Markets React to Rising Tensions

The conflict between the United States and Iran has already caused concern in international markets. The possibility of disruption in oil shipments has created uncertainty in the global energy sector.

The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important oil transit routes in the world, with a large portion of global crude oil exports passing through the narrow waterway every day.

Iran Warns of Possible Oil Shipping Blockade

Iran’s powerful military force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, has warned that it could block oil shipments from the Persian Gulf if attacks by the United States and Israel continue.

Such a move could significantly impact global oil supply and increase energy prices worldwide.

Trump Signals Continued Monitoring

During his remarks, Trump also claimed that US forces currently have strong operational control in the region.

“We’re just riding free range over that country,” he said, referring to US military activity during the conflict.

He again emphasized that the United States would closely watch the strait because of its importance for international trade and energy supply.

Strategic Importance of the Strait of Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It is a critical route for oil exports from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.

Any disruption in the waterway could affect global oil markets and shipping routes.

The situation remains tense as world leaders monitor developments in the region.
