Protests Erupt in India Over Voter List Dispute

04 April, 2026 17:25

Riots have erupted in India over alleged manipulation of the public mandate through election rigging and collusion.

People have taken to the streets, protesting what they describe as manipulation, forgery, and systematic irregularities in voter lists linked to the BJP.

Ahead of the elections in West Bengal, protesters reportedly surrounded judicial staff, accusing them of involvement in electoral irregularities.

According to The Times of India, tensions have escalated to dangerous levels over the special intensive revision of voter lists in the Indian state of West Bengal.

In Malda district, protesters surrounded government offices and held seven officials for several hours, The Times of India reported.

Residents of West Bengal have been strongly protesting against the removal of names from voter lists ahead of the elections.

Officials involved in reviewing voter lists were also reportedly besieged by members of the public.

According to some analysts, the protests and incidents of unrest ahead of the elections indicate growing public dissatisfaction with the electoral process.

They argue that alleged manipulation of voter lists raises concerns about the suppression of public opinion and the fairness of the democratic process.
