Trump’s $1.5 Trillion Military Budget Could Slash Billions From US Citizens’ Programs

04 April, 2026 11:20

US President Donald Trump has proposed a massive $1.5 trillion military budget. Reports reveal that to fund this budget, billions of dollars in domestic and international programs could be cut, affecting millions of Americans and global aid initiatives.

Key Cuts Affecting Americans

According to budget details, many essential programs could see drastic reductions or complete elimination:

  • Agriculture and Farmers: $510 million in grants for farmers and research, $82 million in loans for rural businesses, and $61 million for food market support.
  • Education: $8.5 billion for public schools, $1.5 billion for vocational training, $2.7 billion for college access, and $45 million for renewable energy development programs.
  • Healthcare and Social Programs: $5 billion for public health, $5 billion for medical research, $4 billion for home heating and cooling aid, and $775 million for local anti-poverty programs.
  • Housing: $1.3 billion for affordable housing, $529 million for housing assistance to people with HIV/AIDS, and $50 million for housing grants for communities.
  • Energy and Environment: $1.1 billion for clean energy programs, $150 million for clean energy research, $90 million for diesel pollution reduction, and $100 million for air pollution monitoring.

Many of these programs are fully eliminated in the new proposal, which could severely impact vulnerable groups including low-income families, students, farmers, and marginalized communities.

Cuts to International Aid and Global Programs

Trump’s plan also threatens key international programs:

  • $2 billion in humanitarian aid.
  • $1.2 billion in food aid for hungry families abroad.
  • $4.3 billion for global health and disease prevention.
  • $2.7 billion for the United Nations and international partnerships.
  • $315 million for democracy and anti-corruption programs abroad.

These reductions could weaken the US influence in global aid and diplomacy while prioritizing military spending.

Impact on Infrastructure, Science, and Innovation

The proposed cuts also target US infrastructure, scientific research, and innovation programs:

  • $15.2 billion for roads, bridges, and infrastructure projects.
  • $4.2 billion for electric vehicle charging networks.
  • $3.4 billion for NASA space and earth science research.
  • $143 million for STEM education programs.

Experts warn that such large-scale cuts could slow down technological and educational progress in the United States while leaving critical services underfunded.

Public Reaction and Concerns

Advocates for education, healthcare, and environmental protection have expressed concern. Critics argue that prioritizing military expansion over domestic welfare could increase inequality, weaken public services, and reduce support for vulnerable populations.

With the new budget, millions of Americans could feel the immediate impact through reduced services, limited aid, and fewer opportunities for economic growth.
