Italy Suspends Defence Agreement With Israel

Giorgia Meloni, the prime minister of Italy, has canceled the defense pact with Israel since it is still refusing to halt its bombings on Lebanon.

“The government, in light of the situation we are experiencing, has decided to suspend the automatic renewal of the defense agreement with Israel,” Meloni stated, as reported by La Repubblica, an Italian daily.

Meloni’s announcement on Tuesday follows a visit to Beirut by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who denounced Israel’s invasion of Lebanon and its almost daily bombing of the nation as “unacceptable.”

The purpose of the visit, according to Tajani, was to “convey Italy’s solidarity following Israel’s unacceptable attacks against the civilian population.”

According to sources, the Israeli offensive in Lebanon has resulted in over 2,000 fatalities and over 6,000 injuries nationwide.
