Iran Protests to UN Over Alleged US Use of Gulf States’ Territory in Attacks on Tehran

23 April, 2026 14:17

Iran has formally protested to the United Nations, accusing the United States of using the territory and airspace of several Persian Gulf countries to carry out attacks against Tehran.

Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir-Saeid Iravani, conveyed the concerns in official letters addressed to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council.

In his statement, Iravani emphasized that nations have a responsibility under international law to prevent their territory from being used for acts of aggression against other states.

He called on regional countries including Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia to uphold principles of good neighborly relations and ensure their territories are not used for military operations against Iran.

According to the statement, various US military assets, including drones, bombers, and fighter jets, were allegedly deployed from bases within these Gulf nations during the conflict.

The escalation follows a broader conflict that began on February 28, when airstrikes targeted Iranian officials and military figures, significantly increasing regional tensions.

Iran responded with multiple waves of retaliatory strikes aimed at US and Israeli-linked targets across the region.

A temporary ceasefire came into effect on April 8 after diplomatic efforts, but initial negotiations between Tehran and Washington failed to produce a long-term agreement.

US President Donald Trump later extended the truce, stating that the US would wait for Iran to present a unified proposal for further negotiations.

However, Iranian officials have expressed reluctance to commit to new talks, citing ongoing disputes, including what they describe as excessive demands by the US and a continuing naval blockade.

The situation remains tense, with diplomatic channels still active but no clear resolution in sight.
