EU Parliamentarian Calls for Investigation Into Alleged US-Israeli Minab School Attack as War Crime Claims Intensify
A European parliamentarian has called for a formal investigation into what has been described as the US-Israeli attack on Minab schoolgirls, suggesting that the incident may have been a deliberate and pre-planned strike.
The US and Israel launched an unprovoked war on Iran on February 28, during which 168 children and teachers were reportedly killed in airstrikes on a school in Minab, located in southern Iran, on the first day of the conflict.
EU Member of Parliament Milan Uhrik has urged that the attack on the Minab school be thoroughly investigated. Speaking at a funeral rally titled “Angels of Minab,” held outside the Iranian embassy in Brussels, he stated that the strike may not have been accidental.
Uhrik emphasized that “it is obvious to everyone what the Israeli regime is capable of doing,” referring to past military actions in the region. He also pointed to the situation in Gaza, stating that the Israeli campaign there demonstrates a pattern of civilian targeting.
He further referenced alleged attacks on civilians in Lebanon, including children, women, and the elderly, describing them as examples of what he called the brutality of Israeli forces.
The MEP stated that such actions suggest a strategy of intimidation and fear, adding that the Minab school bombing “could well have been a planned strike” and must be investigated as a potential war crime.
Uhrik argued that the Minab airstrike constitutes a serious violation of international law and insisted that European institutions should not be complicit in such actions. He confirmed that he has already sent a formal letter to the European Commission requesting attention to the matter.
The Slovak politician also criticized European leadership for what he described as double standards in addressing war-related crimes, saying EU institutions often avoid investigations due to political pressure and lack of independence.
He added that European leaders are unable to resist policies influenced by Washington and Tel Aviv. Meanwhile, he noted growing international condemnation of the Iran war, which he said is exposing divisions within Western alliances.
Around 50 activists reportedly attended the Brussels rally to show solidarity with the people of Iran and to support calls for accountability.
