Iran Shot Down Our Apache Helicopter, Says Trump
US President Donald Trump on Tuesday publicly accused Iran of shooting down an American Apache helicopter during an overnight patrol over the Strait of Hormuz, declaring that a US military response was unavoidable.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump announced:Â “I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz.”
He confirmed both crew members survived without injury but made clear that inaction was not an option:Â “There were two pilots involved, both are safe and uninjured. Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
The incident marks yet another flashpoint in a growing cycle of military exchanges between the two countries, despite a ceasefire that came into effect in April. Even so, Trump has continued to signal that a comprehensive deal to end the war with Iran could be finalized within days, maintaining for weeks that an agreement is close despite the conflict having passed the 100-day mark.
Iran’s Speaker of Parliament, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, responded with a pointed warning on X, stopping short of direct confrontation while making Tehran’s readiness unmistakably clear:Â “We prefer the language of diplomacy, but we speak other languages far more fluently. Break your commitments, and we’ll switch to what we speak best. You ride the horse you saddled!”
The latest development comes after Trump told the New York Post the previous week that he would bring the ceasefire with Iran to an end if Tehran were responsible for killing any American troops — a threshold that the Apache helicopter incident now directly tests.
