US President Donald Trump said that top Iranian officials personally reached out to him asking for a halt to US airstrikes. The statement highlights this as an uncommon moment between the US and Iran during a quickly worsening conflict.

Heavy US airstrikes confirmed

Trump made the remarks while confirming that the US carried out major airstrikes earlier in the day. He described the operation as “vicious” and “violent,” saying it involved 49 Tomahawk missiles along with fighter jets. The strikes reportedly targeted Iranian radar systems, air defence sites, and other military positions.

Targets near Tehran and the Gulf

According to Trump, some of the attacks hit areas about 40 miles outside Tehran, as well as locations along Iran’s southwestern coast near the Persian Gulf. He warned that the US could further escalate its military action if Iran does not quickly agree to a deal to end the conflict.

Warning of more escalation

Trump also suggested that bombing could continue in the coming days if no agreement is reached. He said the US is prepared to respond strongly depending on Iran’s actions, reinforcing his hardline stance.

Iran rejects US claims

Iran strongly denied Trump’s statement. Iranian state media quoted a senior official calling the claim “false,” saying it was meant to cover up US setbacks rather than reflect real diplomatic contact. Tehran said no such requests or back-channel messages were made.

The exchange comes amid ongoing strikes between both sides, with US attacks on Iran followed by Iranian strikes on US bases in the region. Iran also warned that tensions around the Strait of Hormuz could have severe consequences, while military officials claimed attacks on US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.
